Adonis and Venus is a neoclassical sculpture by Antonio Canova, completed in 1794 and exhibited at the Musée d’Art et d’Histoire in Geneva.
Canova depicts the two lovers while they are immersed in a moment of deep intimacy: the two seem to have lost direct contact with reality, have their lips parted and their faces reclined and look sweetly in the eyes, ingredients with which the sculptor intends to put in emphasize their love idyll. The faithful hunting dog of his is hidden behind the figures of Adonis and Venus, looking at the owner with his face upwards.
