Degrees: Saint Martin’s School of Art and Goldsmiths in London from 1974, postgraduate course in sculpture at the Slade School of Fine Art, University College, London, between 1977 and 1979.
Currently lives and works in London.
The first visit to Carrara by Antony Gormley was in 1979: amazed by the majesty and beauty of the mountains, by the cuts, by the cracks, and by how the absolute geometries were interfaced with the chaos of the mountains.
The work entitled 2×2, realized for the XIV International Sculpture Biennial of Carrara held in 2010, highlights the evolution of art at the time of mechanical reproduction, transforming bones, skin and muscles in a processing with a geometric rigor not unlike from the structure of the marble itself.
