Cherokee, born in Arkansas in 1940. Visual artist, sculptor, but also essayist and poet. In the ’70s he was a prominent political activist in the American Indian Movement. He creates bizarre objects, assemblages and installations. His works often start from found objects usually from waste) that, by contrasting architecture, monumentality and narratives of national identities and histories, deconstruct and undermine the stereotypes and prejudices of Western culture.
