Cherokee, nato in Arkansas nel 1940. Artista visivo, scultore, ma anche saggista e poeta. Negli anni ’70 è stato attivista politico di primo piano nell’American Indian Movement. Realizza bizzarri oggetti, assemblage e installazioni. Le sue opere partono spesso da oggetti trovati (se non da rifiuti) che, mettendo a confronto architettura, monumentalità e narrazioni delle identità e delle storie nazionali, decostruiscono e mettono in crisi gli stereotipi e i pregiudizi della cultura occidentale.
